Boost Your Credit Score

To boost your credit score score an individual can perform self credit repair. With some determination and a little patience it is possible to repair one’s credit. Financial history evaluated by the credit bureau’s can have errors. Some accounts might be listed twice. This can often happen when a collection agency reports the same account as the creditor reported. There are credit repair companies that will work with a person to make corrections on his or her financial history to help raise credit scores. An individual can request a combined score from all three credit bureaus and can request a free annual copy of one’s credit reports. The combined score usually cost a consumer a little bit of money but this cost is minimal compared to what a bad score will cost.

After receiving a combined score an individual may want to try and do some credit repair on financial history especially if the score is below 620. To boost your credit score start by highlighting any accounts that are listed more than once, any errors on personal information or accounts, and any accounts that do not appear to be yours. Get out financial records and compare your records with the credit bureau’s reports. Write a letter or fill out a dispute form on every derogatory item that is negative. Make copies of any information that can help to prove the accuracy of what is being disputed.

The credit bureaus can take up to 30 days to answer any disputes. In order to successfully boost your credit score a person may need to follow up with the bureau after 30 days if no correspondence has been received. The credit bureaus are required to send the creditor the dispute giving them the opportunity to refute the claims. If the creditor proves that the account information is correct then the item will remain on the report. However, the individual does have the right to add up to 100 words stating his or her side of the matter. If the creditor does not answer back within the allotted time period then the bureau will normally remove the item completely from the history.

Another way to boost your credit score is to pay down debts and cut back on using charge cards. Paying bills on time every month can raise scores. Not having credit cards maxed out can raise scores as well. When trying to do repair on financial history a person would have more success if he or she does not open new charge or revolving accounts. Too much credit can bring down scores. Too many new or recent inquiries can also affect scores negatively. Anytime a person applies for new credit an inquiry is listed on his or her report. Boosting your credit score is possible and can be accomplished if one is willing to make some sacrifices, live on a budget, meet obligations timely, and discontinue using credit cards.
